Here we go!

I have the best friends ever!! October 20, 2010

I am just so darn blessed.  Gotta tell ya.

A couple of Fridays ago, a bunch of my gal friends from church came over.  They didn’t just come over for a party at my house.  No, no.  They each brought with them a prepared meal for me to freeze so I wouldn’t have to worry about dinners!  I LOVE this idea!

Megan and Sara planned the whole get together, and they also made a taco soup that night for all of us to munch on.  Then we watched the hilarious movie Baby Mama and ate cookies that Eunice had made.

What a great idea and what a great night!  Now my freezer is stocked full of meals and I don’t have to worry about what I’m going to make for dinner!

And I have to admit, I didn’t wait to use all the meals for after the baby is here.  When J and I found out my mom was coming early, we used a couple of the meals because I was just too tired to cook anything.  So Kelly, your Potato Casserole is GONE!  And it was delish, thank you!  And Eunice, we ate one of the pizzas, which totally hit the spot.  Oh, and Megan, we devoured the yummy chicken enchiladas too.  🙂

But we still have Taco Soup from Kiffen, Chicken Alfredo from Julie, Enchilada Casserole from Kim, another pizza from Eunice, and Potato Soup from Megan!

Oh, and let’s not forget that Tina brought me the cutest robe and shorts set for the hospital instead of a meal.  It’s pink and black, so cute!  And I totally needed it because I have nothing like it and I was going to end up wearing old sweat pants and some of J’s oversized shirts.  So now I can at least look somewhat decent after having a baby.  🙂

I am so blessed to have all these ladies in my life!  I thank God for all of you!

Yay for fall! September 28, 2010

I love fall.  It is probably my favorite season of all.

Not too hot.

Not too cold.

Pretty colors.

Warm blankets.

Sweatshirts.

Snuggling!

Yesterday I went to my local King Soopers (ridiculous name, but it’s my favorite grocery store) and I picked up two small pumpkins and a cinnamon broom!  I put them on either side of the fireplace when I got home and now my house looks so festive!

And!  And!  I picked up a can of pumpkin and made my first pumpkin pie of the season last night.  Oh it was so delicious and perfect with a little bit of vanilla ice cream on top.

The only thing that would have made the night better is if we could have had a fire in the fireplace.  But considering that Denver still hasn’t picked up the hint that it’s FALL, I doubt that’s going to happen anytime soon.   What’s the point of building a fire when the air conditioning is still running?

Yeah, we’re still having 90 degree days here.  Booo, Denver.  Booo.  When will you learn that it’s not the middle of August?

So anyway, one more exciting tidbit for you…

I am the honored associate at work for the month of October!  Hooray!

Every honored associate gets a flower arrangement, and you will not believe what I got…

Isn't this just perfect for me?!

The flowers are in a clay pumpkin pot that I’ll be able to use for festive fall decorating FOREVER!  (Or until J or one of his offspring accidentally drops it.  I have learned to not become too attached to anything that enters my home.  Boys…  :))

All the fun stuff! September 14, 2010

J and I went shopping this weekend at Babies R Us to get some more stuff on our registry.  We got all sorts of “needs,” mostly boring stuff like a mattress cover and a car window shade and the ever important breast feeding supplies and creams and such.

We looked around at a few fun things, but didn’t buy any.

Until!  J pointed out we hadn’t bought boy/girl outfits for the ride home from the hospital.

Since we’re not going to find out ahead of time what type of baby we’re having, we wanted to buy one cute boy outfit and one cute girl outfit for bringing Jr. home from the hospital.  When baby makes his or her entrance, we’ll send my mom home to wash the appropriate outfit and we’ll return the other one.  We’ll just keep them on the hangers until then.

So, I wanted to show the world the absolute CUTENESS of the outfits we picked out.  J picked out the girl outfit, and I got to choose the boy outfit.  SO FUN FUN FUN!

This is the one J picked out. It's fleece pants and a hoodie jacket with a cute polka dot onesie underneath!

And here is the one I picked out. Notice the Broncos color scheme. 🙂 This is a sweatshirt like material for the pants and jacket with a plain onesie underneath. The jacket says, "Mommy's Football All Star"

So how cute are those?!  I am so excited to put baby in one of them.  Yay!

Washington! September 8, 2010

We went to Washington a couple of weeks ago and I’m just now finished with writing about it! J and I went for my Grandpa’s memorial, and our friend, Johnny D came along for all the family activities as well.

Thursday night we rode the plane into Washington. Normally this is an uneventful part of the trip. But not this time. First, let me say that the love of my life, J, let me have the aisle seat. I didn’t even ask. He’s a big guy so the middle is really uncomfortable for him, but he scooted right over for me. What a sweet and thoughtful man I have! We took off and were at our cruising altitude when the seatbelt light went off, giving me the go ahead for the bathroom, which of course was much needed. I got up and started up the aisle to the front of the plane when over the loudspeaker I heard something close to the following, “If there is someone in the front lavatory, please wait until they have exited to make your way to the front of the plane. If the blue light is on, it means the front lavatory is occupied. You may not form a line at the front of the plane. Thank you.” EMBARRASING! And blue light? Whoever heard of a blue light meaning something is occupied? I’ve seen the little man and woman symbol with an X through it, and that’s obvious. But a teeny blue light in the upper right hand corner means nothing to me. Whatever Southwest Airlines. So I headed back to my seat to wait for my turn.

The rest of the flight was uneventful. I read. J read. Our friend Johnny D read. We landed, got home, went to bed.

Friday we were greeted by beautiful weather! It has been a HOT summer in Denver with temps in the 90’s, so it was nice to cool down to the 70’s and 80’s for a few days. We had my grandpa’s memorial service at Paradise on Mt. Rainier. It was a good time to get together with everyone and honor grandpa’s life.

Mom, sharing about her dad.

Auntie Jennie sharing about her dad.

Me and Johnny D playing a couple of Grandpa's favorite hymns.

The family.

My mountain

Johnny D showing off his jumping skills. This picture reminds me of the song, "Believe it or not, I'm walkin on air, I never thought I could feel so freeeee...."

Mom's homemade carrot cake, decorated by yours truly.

On the way back we stopped at the Scalehouse for a mountain blackberry shake. It was a necessity, trust me.

That night we walked to a local Mexican food place, and on the way we saw an old friend – Steve Samples. We used to play soccer with his daughter. It was crazy! He’s running a brewery where people can go in and actually MAKE their own beer. So we stopped by on the way back from dinner and everyone had a pint or two, except of course for me.

Saturday morning we walked to the local farmer’s market, which is the biggest market I’ve seen in a long time. We ate breakfast at a local coffee shop down there and then wandered around for a while.

Then we headed back to the house to go to a family reunion on my mom’s side. They are very proud of their Slovak heritage on that side, which means we always do a Slivovitz (plum brandy) toast before everyone leaves. The stuff tastes like rubbing alcohol and it burns all the way down. But it’s fun to yell out “Nastrovia!” as you toss back, so that makes it all worth it. Of course, I did not imbibe, but I did have a teensy taste of J’s. Still tastes nasty.

Also, I have to note here that my smooth-talking Dad got a fragile 86 year old lady with a cane to take a ride with him on his Harley. It took him about 30 minutes to convince her to go, but he wouldn’t give up till she said yes. We could all tell she was really nervous to get on the bike, but she was smiling and laughing when they pulled back in. Dad just wants everyone to have a good time. And he will use force (actually threatened to withhold her dessert if she didn’t go) when necessary.

That evening we met up with some old friends, Skippy and Nicole. We had a blast hanging out with them! We spent the evening laughing and joking at the house with my mom and dad. And Johnny D finally got to try Rainier beer. This isn’t something to aspire to, of course. But when in Rome…

Johnny D, Skippy, Nicole, Me, J

Sunday morning we went to Gravelly Lake so Lee could get in a good barefoot skiing session before he headed back to Vegas. It was so cool to see it in person!

This is how you start when barefoot skiing. Feet hooked in the rope, but skimming on the water. Looks pretty uncomfortable to me.

Lee barefooting along the water! It was crazy!

Jo and Lee and Johnny D headed to the airport Sunday afternoon because they all had to be back at work the next day. J and I just lounged around with mom and dad that night. Mom made a delicious chili for dinner, and J insists I try to recreate it weekly now.

Monday Dad went to work. J, mom, and I went to Babies R Us to check out their gliders. J and I got a little extra money and we thought we’d take mom along to spend it. We ended up buying a glider there and doing the alternate store pickup back home! We got a much nicer one than we originally thought we could get, but it will be well worth it for all those nights of rocking baby to sleep.

We tried out a fun local restaurant named Marcia’s for lunch. I can’t remember what happened after that.

That night we decided to take mom and dad out to dinner for being such great hosts, and we brought their friends Bob and Lynn along for the fun as well. We went to Katie Downs and ate some good food and had a few drinks. I had a few drinks of Sprite.

Tuesday morning we got up, packed, and headed for the airport. The flight home was much more uneventful and I can’t even really remember it.

What a fantastic trip home!  It was so good to see all my family and even a couple of my friends!

camping August 11, 2010

I thought I should post some fun pics from our camping trip a couple of weeks ago.  I wrote the following right after we got back, but never posted it because I wanted to include some pictures.  So here I am, finally getting around to that…

Well, camping was great.

I was actually very surprised at how well I did at 9000+ feet while sleeping in a tent and going potty in vault toilets.  Ewww.  I had a wonderful time with friends!

And the food was good too.  J and Phil even made some tri-tip, BBQ chicken, and Caesar salad for dinner on Saturday.  Best camping food I’ve ever had!

The camping part was relaxing, but I’m still completely exhausted from the trip.  And I’ve got a few mounds of laundry to do tonight.  But it was all worth it!  Having fun with friends for a whole weekend is the best!

Norm was all excited to be outside!

J playing a game that Donald invented. Or something like that.

The guys played this for hours. Here is Dan.

And hours. (Luke)

We also got in some good relaxation time!

Peyton Manning James. The only sissy dog on the trip. Ah, but we love him.

And our youngest camper was all smiles!

That’s it until next year, when we’ll see how J and I do with an 8 month old up there.  Not sure if mama’s gonna be able to make it for both nights.  But we might try one.  Might.  Maybe.  We’ll see.

Gender Poll on the Blog! And some other news. August 5, 2010

Hi friends and family!

I posted a gender poll yesterday afternoon at the top of the blog.

Please take a minute to give us your best guess about what you think we are having!  Fun fun!

Today is the last day of my second trimester.  Tomorrow I will be at exactly 28 weeks, and in my 7th month of pregnancy.  Wow, we are moving into the final stretch here!

Tomorrow I’ll have a week 28 update, and some belly pictures to post!  It’s been 4 weeks since my last set of pictures, and there certainly has been some growth.  🙂

In other news, I had a doctor appointment this morning.  All seems well, as far as we can tell.  My blood pressure is low–106/60, and the baby’s heart beat was around 144 bpm today.

I also had to have a blood glucose test at the Dr. today, which will tell me if I have gestational diabetes.  Let’s pray against that!  I went in at 8am this morning, and had to drink this NASTY orange sugar drink.  It tasted like really sweet orange soda that had been left on the counter until it was flat.  Ewww.  Not the best thing that early in the morning.  Then I had to wait an hour so they could draw my blood.  So we’ll find out sometime in the next couple of days if there’s any issues.

From here on out, I get to see the Dr. every 2 weeks.  Wow!  That’s a lot!  So I’ll be back for another appointment August 18.

Whew!  We are certainly picking up speed as we get closer to the end!

First Mother’s Day! May 10, 2010

Well this year’s Mother’s Day was quite a bit more exciting for me than previous years.

We woke up in time to go to church and I showered and got ready.  Just as I was finished drying my hair J brought me a gift wrapped in Christmas paper with penguins on it.  Haha!  🙂  So classic.  He also got me one of those cards that plays a song when you open it.  This one sang, “Ain’t No Woman Like the One I Got…”  Cute!

I tore through the penguin wrapping paper and found this really cute maternity top!  I had pointed it out a couple of months ago when we were at our neighborhood Target, and he went back and bought it for me the next day.  What a sweet guy!

My mom and J’s mom both got me really cute preggo Mother’s Day cards!  And J’s mom also got me a cute pregnancy mug.  It’s a white ceramic mug shaped like a pregnant belly.  Kind of hard to describe, but it looks like this…  So funny!

After church we went to Pei-Wei Asian Diner for lunch because my friend Kelly gave me a coupon for buy one get one on Mother’s Day.  I got my favorite Japanese Teriyaki bowl with tofu and brown rice.  I don’t always like tofu, but the way they cook it at Pei-Wei is delicious!!  They cook it till it’s firm, so it has the texture of chicken instead of goop.  Sooo good.

From there we headed over to the AMC Theatres.  My friend Kelly had also given us free passes to the movie Letters to Juliet.  She had gotten four passes through an online deal, so we met up with her and her husband for the movie.  It was actually really good!  It was a little cheesy, but what can you expect from a girly chick flick like that?  Plus, come on, it was FREE.  And if you know J and me, you know we can’t resist free.  Kelly and Shervon even threw down for the popcorn and soda.  What a great treat!

By the time the movie got out we were ready to head home for a bit.  I took Norm outside and gave him a good brushing while J practiced fly fishing in the back yard.  Our friend Donald is letting him borrow his pole for a while so he can get the hang of it.  Then we took Norm for a walk around the neighborhood.  When we got back J did some weed whacking with our new trimmer and I did some clean up work in the front and back yard.  J also FINALLY cut up our Christmas tree and threw it in our garbage can.  I can’t believe the thing sat in our yard till Mother’s Day.  I think we hold the record for that.  Oy.

After all the running around, we plopped down on the couches and relaxed for a while.  We were going to go out for a nice Mother’s Day dinner, but neither of us had the will to get up after all that yard work.   So J ran out and picked up some Qdoba for us.  I got a bean and cheese quesadilla with guacamole.  And he got me a surprise brownie for dessert.  Not exactly a super healthy meal, but that’s ok every once in a while.

I ran up to bed after The Celebrity Apprentice was over and I was out like a light.

It’s interesting to me to think that this same time next year we will have a crazy 6 month old on our hands.  So weird.

Baby is 15 weeks and a couple of days now!  He or she is practicing breathing with amniotic fluid.  (I have no idea how that works.)  Legs are starting to get longer than arms.  Eyes are still fused shut, BUT he or she can sense light now.  Apparently, if I shine a flash light on my tummy, he or she is likely to move away from the beam.  Still haven’t felt any real movements, but every once in a while I’ll get a little flutter.  Could be digestive.  Could be my organs moving around down there.  Could be a BABY!
