Here we go!

YAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!! February 6, 2012

I think my sister will vouch for me that I am the type of person who can celebrate anything. ANYTHING.

I love to scream out of giddiness and have a good time for any reason that warrants it.

I celebrate my own achievements and blessings, and I celebrate those of others as much as my own. I love to see good things happen to good people! That may have something to do with being the youngest child.

For instance, today on the Ellen Degeneres show, the wonderful Ellen gave a brand new car AND $20,000 cash to a single mom who was really down on her luck. I cried. And make no mistake, they were tears of happiness. I was so happy for this woman I had never met that I cried and laughed for her good fortune. I also cry tears of joy when someone wins a great prize on the Price is Right. And I cry when I hear that one of my friends (who shall remain nameless) is dating another one of my friends (also nameless). Yes, all good news.

And I have something to celebrate myself today, as well.

That’s right, folks, my blood sugar test came out completely normal.

I will celebrate tonight with some delicious ice cream.

Excuses, excuses December 18, 2011

Just a little explanation as to why I haven’t posted in a while…

The number one reason is that I’ve been busy planning a benefit sale at our church for orphans in Gojjo Ethiopia. So there. ūüôā

Our church planned a benefit concert and decided it would be fun to add a marketplace that night as well. So last night we had the concert and the sale. And what a success it was! We’ve raised about half of the money we need to build a school in Ethiopia. It was a lot of work for me, but it was also a ton of fun! And it gave our church members an opportunity to use their gifts to make items or offer services to donate to the sale.

So that’s my big excuse.

My other one is that on Tuesday when I was about to sit down and write my weekly blog, I fell. Yep, I fell. Hard. On the stairs. And I really hurt my bum. Bad. So I laid down on the couch and iced my backside and rested.

Oh, and I have a crazy, teething, almost walking one-year-old.

So there ya go.

Update: Christmas Crafts December 6, 2011

This is an update to let you know I will update you sometime either Thursday or Friday on the Yule Log and wreath project. Let’s just say they’re done and there was only one minor injury to report.

Christmas Time is Here! December 4, 2011

I’m going to make a Yule Log! My very first one. I will let you know how that goes. J is going to help, so how could it go wrong? Also, I think we’re going to try to make our own wreath too.

Fingers crossed that both projects go well since they’ll bring the majority of the Christmas spirit to our home this year.

We’re not getting a tree.

I KNOW. Trust me, I know.

But we’re leaving on Christmas Eve to be with my family for my first Christmas home since 2003 (I KNOW!!!), and we’ll be there till the New Year… so coming back home after a¬†nice big vacation¬†only to have to take down all the Christmas decorations by myself (because J will be at work) would be pretty depressing. But a wreath and a Yule Log? Fun! And easy to dispose of. ūüôā And I’ll be making them with branches cut off of trees from the Rocky Mountains, not some fake wannabe Christmas tree¬†from Home Depot or Walmart. Boo-yah.

So hopefully this project works out. I will let you know…

Oh the girliness of it all October 7, 2011

Filed under: Potpourri — teamerickson @ 2:24 pm

Quick update on the deck pieces that were left: The people who originally came and got the deck, came back later yesterday afternoon and picked up the rest of it. So no more deck for us to get rid of. The gals who picked it up said they are going to build a goat pen out of it for a homestead. Anyone know what a “homestead” is in today’s society?

Went shopping today for a friend who is pregnant with a baby girl. Since this is her second baby, all she wants are clothes. CLOTHES!

Shopping for baby girl clothes is the BEST! They are just so darn cute. How do designers even come up with the adorable accents and colors and patterns that they put on those clothes? I have no idea. But boy, I am a sucker for ’em.

I went to TJ Maxx with a couple of my girlfriends who also needed to shop for our pregnant friend. Oh my word at the cute. And each of us left with at least a couple of things that we LOVED and we knew our friend would love too!

So here’s the thing… I’ve really taken the time to think logically about this pregnancy, and I’ve decided that either way I’d be happy. If I have another boy, Gunnar will have a playmate for life. Someone to wrestle with. Someone to play football with. Someone to talk about girls with. Plus, I already have a boy, so I know a little about what goes on with them. But if I have a girl, well, I don’t have one of those. So that would be neat! And then I’d have one of each. Plus, Big J with a teeny little girl… I mean, come on! Could it get any cuter than that?!

I’m really just hoping for a healthy pregnancy and baby, but all that girly shopping today really made me want one of my own. I can’t wait to find out with this one!

Not a lot to say October 5, 2010

Filed under: Potpourri — teamerickson @ 1:25 pm

Well, there’s not a lot¬†to say today, so here’s¬†a list of interesting things.

1.¬† J got a good case of¬†THE GOUT¬†again.¬† He’s been controlling¬†it with diet really¬†well, but the Gatorade¬†snuck up on us.¬† Apparently sugary¬†drinks can bring on an attack, and since¬†he was sick for about a week, he had a week’s worth of Gatorade in his system.¬† Now I know¬†THE GOUT is¬†a painful thing, but I’m not one to be big on the whole sympathy/empathy/compassion part of loved ones being sick.¬† (Maybe it’s because mom started¬†making me clean up my own vomit right around the age of 12 or so.¬† Good ol’ responsibility.)¬† So I’ve never been one to really “believe” J when he tells me it hurts.¬† Yeah, I know it hurts.¬† So does my migraine.¬† And this baby.¬† And being a woman.¬† But I was talking to my sister Jo yesterday, and she was telling me about a conversation with a doctor friend of hers who said THE GOUT is one of the most painful things one can experience in life.¬† He said it’s right up there with kidney stones and (of all things) labor pains.¬† (!!!)¬† So I guess I need to be more sympathetic/empathetic/compassionate since I’m expecting him to do the same¬†for me in the delivery room.

2.¬† Number one was really wordy.¬† I don’t think the other things on this list will be as lengthy, so everyone¬†breathe a big sigh of relief.¬† But I make no guarantees…

3.¬† I ate some candy corn.¬† It is my favorite fall treat.¬† Don’t judge me.

4.  Sister Jo, will you please make these MUFFINS for me?  You are, after all, the baker of the family.

5.¬† Now that we are on the subject of food,¬†Grandma Hodgkiss, I would really like you to make some of your homemade bran muffins when you come see us!¬† And¬†Grandma Erickson,¬†your homemade peanut brittle is a holiday necessity, so please make some when you come visit!¬† Glad I got those food requests out of the way.¬† ūüôā

6.¬† 24 days to go.¬† Twenty-four.¬† The big 2-4.¬† And suddenly I’m rushed back to the realization that it may be more like 24 + 14 = 38.¬† Oh Lord, please no and don’t let it be.

7.¬† And that reminds me, we are so not ready to have this baby yet.¬† The car seat is not installed.¬† My hospital bag has not even begun to pack itself.¬† The nursery looks like a tornado went through it.¬† I have washed 3.5 outfits and¬†1 changing pad cover for baby, but not a single sheet or blanket.¬† And I don’t think we have any baby wipes yet.¬† Yeah, that’s a problem.¬†

And seven is a great number to end up at.  So I will end it there.  (Is anyone still reading this?)  Hope you have a fantastic day!

Yay for fall! September 28, 2010

I love fall.  It is probably my favorite season of all.

Not too hot.

Not too cold.

Pretty colors.

Warm blankets.

Yesterday I went to my local King Soopers (ridiculous name, but it’s my favorite grocery store) and I picked up two small pumpkins and a cinnamon broom!¬† I put them on either side of the fireplace when I got home and now my house looks so festive!

And!  And!  I picked up a can of pumpkin and made my first pumpkin pie of the season last night.  Oh it was so delicious and perfect with a little bit of vanilla ice cream on top.

The only thing that would have made the night better is if we could have had a fire in the fireplace.¬† But considering that Denver still hasn’t picked up the hint that it’s FALL, I doubt that’s going to happen anytime soon.¬†¬† What’s the point of building a fire when the air conditioning is still running?

Yeah, we’re still having 90 degree days here.¬† Booo, Denver.¬† Booo.¬† When will you learn that it’s not the middle of August?

So anyway, one more exciting tidbit for you…

I am the honored associate at work for the month of October!  Hooray!

Every honored associate gets a flower arrangement, and you will not believe what I got…

Isn't this just perfect for me?!

The flowers are in a clay pumpkin pot¬†that I’ll be able to use¬†for festive fall decorating FOREVER!¬† (Or until J or one of his offspring accidentally drops it.¬† I have learned to not become too attached to anything that enters my home.¬† Boys…¬† :))
